Ballinluig Roundabout: Reassurances

THE OBSERVATIONS below have been posted in the commentonline Forum and refer to some local drivers’ experiences with the temporary arrangements at Ballinluig junction.
‘...(I) came withing 2 ft of meeting my maker on it on Sunday thanks to just one of many suicidal drivers ... decided to turn right across two lanes of carriageway while we headed toward his broadside at about 65 mph...’
‘...The exit here is very tight, and there is no way a large vehicle like a lorry could turn left and go round the roundabout in the proper manner to reach the Ballinluig turnoff, so they turn right, drive across the junction, straight across on-coming traffic...’

‘... I drove round the roundabout, stopped and checked there was still no traffic coming down from Pitlochry, crossed the A9 and, as I drove on to the Ballinluig road I nearly ended up underneath the wheels of a gigantic lorry thundering across my bonnet...’
‘...I was turning right at the mini roundabout (lego land) at Ballinluig, when a driver heading south did not bother to stop or give way to traffic from the right. I was forced to stop in the middle of the road and watch him go past only for him to blast his horn and wave (gesture to me with a single salute)...’
‘.... I have seen lorries thundering towards the roundabout from the north that are struggling to stop in time for someone turning from the south into Ballinluig. I am seriously worried there will be a bad accident there and I only go that way if I really have to...’

Action
C’llr Lyall has told Comment that P&K Council’s Roads Department has no jurisdiction over the junction as it is a trunk road. The contractors, Balfour Beatty, hold monthly meetings with the police and Scotland Transerve (the body responsible for trunk roads) to address any issues with the junction project.
He has been assured that any suggestions regarding the temporary roundabout etc would be appreciated and duly considered by all the parties involved. He is confident that any complaint, or reported near-miss/accident, will be scrutinised and any proposed improvements to the junction would be acted upon.
