C'llr Howie - June Update

Decisions have now been made by Perth & Kinross Council regarding Committee convenors and members of the various Council committees and also representation on most of the other organisations. I am vice convenor of the Life Long Learning committee, a member of the Development Control committee and will also be chairing the Agricultural Forum. I continue on the Board of Pitlochry Festival Theatre and also on the Executive committee of the Scots Language Centre.

Locally I will be the Council's representative on both Pitlochry Civic Trust and the Blair Atholl & Struan Hall Initiative.
Not all of the protocols regarding the how the new multimember wards should best operate have been finalised and experience will most likely highlight further areas. Other than matters concerning individual constituents, the Council officials will be making sure that all 3

Highland Councillors are made aware of local matters being dealt with by them. It would also seem pretty silly for all 3 of your Councillors to attend all the Community Councils in the area . However, you do now have the choice of 3 Councillors for any enquiry or problem you hav !

Cycle Event
The "Etape Caledonia" cycle race start from Pitlochry was an amazing sight with groups of 100 cyclist leaving at 4 minute intervals, each led by a motorcycle. My impression was that the organisation was first class and the finish had a festive atmosphere with live music as the competitors returned. The sight of competitors (after cycling 70 odd miles) turning off the main road at Logierait to climb the steep hill up towards the cemetery was very interesting - and some of their comments when they saw what was ahead of them were pretty choice!Given the bad weather over that weekend, I can't help feeling that many of our normal weekend visitors would either not have come or gone home early. The hardy cyclists didn't seem to mind the weather, some saying that at least they didn't get too hot! I look forward to the results of the Council's comprehensive evaluation of this event with regard to its economic impact on the area.

Prizegiving
I recently attended Pitlochry High School's prize giving at Pitlochry Festival Theatre which featured contributions from lots of pupils, including a variety of musical entertainment. Once again I was truly impressed by the talents and achievements of our local youngsters.
Lastly, for those of you who haven't yet visited, Moulin Kirk Heritage Centre will provide you (and your visitors) with a fascinating glimpse of our local past with a variety of areas of interest. Genealogy is also catered for as the Family History Group is also housed in the
Kirk.
