Pupils in Discussion with MP
On 29 August MP Pete Wishart discussed democracy, current affairs and the electoral process with pupils from Pitlochry High School’s Modern Studies Department.
“One of the major problems that the democratic system in Scotland faces today is lower turnout for elections and lack of engagement with young people and the political process,” said the MP.
“I was therefore absolutely delighted to be invited to Pitlochry High School by pupils to discuss issues surrounding democracy and elections. |

“I have found that young people are very interested in political matters such as the environment and global warming, education and housing policy and foreign affairs, but unfortunately this often does not translate into taking part in the democratic process.”
He added: “I think it is excellent that these pupils show such willingness to engage with the salient issues of today and I am very much looking forward to exploring topics and debating with the voters of the future”
