C'llr Campbell: Update

The major point of interest this month for all Perth & Kinross was the go ahead for the Investment in Learning project which will provide six new schools including community facilities for various parts of the county. Of interest in Highland Perthshire is of course the new Breadalbane Academy which from the plans I have seen will be a state of the art building providing first class educational facilities as well as superb community facilities. Although I have not been closely involved in the project it was good to see the obvious pride in the project held by those who had been involved from the start.

I was also at the first of Breadalbane and Pitlochry High schools parent council meetings and it was great to see so many parents and teachers taking a great interest in the schools their children attend. I would urge all parents to contact their local school councils just to see if they can help in any way. Even knowing that there are parentsthat they can call on to help out with fundraising or stewarding school events would be a great help to your local school council.

I have had some complaints about the condition of Aberfeldy cemetery and, along with William Leszke of Aberfeldy Community Council, we met the council officers responsible for local cemeteries and have agreed an improvement plan for Aberfeldy which will involve the levelling of lairs, trimming of trees, resurfacing of the pathways and improved maintenance of other areas in the cemetery. In fact the resurfacing has already started, some lairs have been levelled and the improvement is both noticeable and welcome.

I have visited Killecrankie, Aberfeldy, Kinloch Rannoch, Dull & Weem and Blair Atholl community councils in the last few weeks and have met with both the Invervar Community Assoc. and the developer with respect to the Invervar small-scale hydro scheme.

I was also at the public meeting in Kinloch Rannoch to see the presentation, by the developer, of plans for a hotel / spa on the Dall estate. This is an ambitious project and was met with mixed views by those attending. It will be interesting to see how this project develops.

At Blair Atholl there was an interesting presentation on the possible development of a ‘gateway centre’ in the village, which would provide visitors with an understanding of the Cairngorms and surrounding upland areas and to show how these have developed. There would also be the opportunity for local businesses to showcase their wares. This is a development that I believe can only be of great benefit to the village and will hopefully be supported by all.

Along with other elected members we were presented with the findings of the councils consultants with regard to the Caledonia Etape. It seemed a fair and balanced assessment and we will all be considering the findings before presenting the findings to a wider audience of community councils, business and the public in the very near future.
