A9 Dualling: Commitment & Timetable Call from MSP

A number of parliamentary questions to find out the new Scottish Executive’s timetable for dualling the A9 in its entirety between Perth and Inverness have been lodged by Tory MSP Murdo Fraser.

He is asking the Scottish Executive

* to set out its timetable for the full dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness;

* to provide the start date and completion date for the dualling; and

* to set out how much funds it will allocate to fully dual the A9 between Perth and Inverness.

The MSP is a strong supporter of dualling the A9 in its entirety from Perth to Inverness, and has campaigned for a number of years on the issue and launched a petition and website to dual the A9.

Priority

The MSP said: “I welcome indications from the new Scottish Executive that they will commit to dualling the A9, but we need to see a firm timetable for action. That is why I have lodged a number of parliamentary questions so that the people of Perthshire and road users of the A9 will know exactly if, and when, work on the A9 will commence as well as how much funding is allocated to this important project.

“The road users of the A9 understand that the A9 must be upgraded to dual carriageway status between Perth and Inverness. The Scottish Conservatives have long sided with the commuters of the A9 and believe that the road must be upgraded. We have campaigned for the A9 to be dualled since before the opening of the Scottish Parliament.

“I believe that the A9 is the priority road for being upgraded in Scotland. It is Scotland’s deadliest road with the unfortunate statistic of having the highest death rate of all of Scotland’s roads. These cold facts must be considered by this new Scottish Executive and make a quick and clear decision to upgrade the A9.”
